![]() Help for my computer says this is for dial-up only as did my Internet provider. I have research Spybot help extensively which took me to LAN settings. No problems.Ĭurrently, I am getting an error about installing detection updates using integrated or manual updater. It was very easy to use and did a great job. I had Spybot on my PC spring 05 with the same Internet service I have now on my new laptop. This program is a must have to complement any other anti-malware program you have. My entire Spybot program file is less than 70 mb after all updates. Another reviewer stated that the updates were getting too big. Has some "extras" like IE tweaks, file shredder, and a startup manager. The option to update during install should be done differently, because if you are not careful, you may have more than one instance of Spybot running. The program cleans pretty well, although it MUST be kept up to date. My only gripe here is that some of the features you have to dig for by changing into the advanced mode, like the scheduler and the real-time shield. This program has a decent interface, nothing too flashy, and pretty well laid out for the most part. And I am still using it to this day on all my PCs. This product has been around for a VERY long time. Thanks to the developers for providing a great piece of free software for so many years, and good luck with this as well. So I tried to improvise by selecting the entire C drive for a "folder" scan, but this froze the program, which then required a ctrl+alt+del just to be mercifully closed and cleared away. With the latest version of Spybot S&D, I could not expediently figure out how to run a full system scan, and it appeared to not even be an option on the free version any more. From the gimmicks to hide and discourage downloading the free version, to the unnecessarily complicated interface, I recognized this path to bloatware oblivion as the same one AVG took a few years ago when it became the awful, invasive piece of spyware it is today ("security" toolbar, anyone?). I was sorely disappointed with how badly this program has lost focus. I hadn't used it in a while, but wanted to check behind MBAM, MSE, and SuperAntiSpyware on a laptop I was cleaning up for a friend. Windows Defender worked when it first came out, but now it just seems to do nothing.Spybot was my go-to malware program for years until MBAM came along and severely outclassed it. The reason i state that Windows Defender doesnt detect anything is because im a tech ICT and manage several hundred computers, every computer here has Windows Defender on, yet every few weeks i can garantee i get a complaint from a user saying that strange things are happening, well i take these computers in and run the programs above and can find several cases of malicious software. We find that the combination of the programs above pretty much secures all our pcs from 99%(theres always new threats so this value can never be 100%) of threats. Of course no prgram is perfect here at work we run all of these: Spybot is very good because it is always being updated to detect new trojans, it doesnt harm your pc and can detect alot of malicious software. Its hard to quantify programs like this, they are rated by how much stuff they detect and which ones do the least damage removing those nasty pieces of software. I recommend Teatimer because once you remember to click that "remember this change" it will only ever pop up when you are installing something, however if it pops up when your not installing then you know that a malicious piece of code is trying to infect your computer (always remember to ensure that auto update programs are not installing stuff). The teatimer feature is very good, just remember to click "remember this change" if you know that the entry is safe and it wont pop-up so much. WOAH! windows defender may be free but it doesnt detect ANYTHING! Why would you need spybot search and destroy? Forget it.
